Make Responsible Choices: A Message from the Dean of Student Success

Friday, September 4, 2020

Dear Students:

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives in ways we never could have imagined seven months ago. As we reopen the Central Washington University campus, it is tempting to assume that we can engage in activities and behaviors we would not have considered risky in the past.

But that is not the case.

The thing about the coronavirus is that even if we don’t have symptoms, we can spread it to others who are at greater risk. That is why it is important for all of us to make responsible choices in order to support the health and safety of the entire community.

That means following proper health and safety practices, such as frequently washing our hands, wearing a face covering, and maintaining physical distance from others. It also means thinking twice about going to a party or participating in a group activity where distancing and face coverings are not possible or are ignored.

Please know that not acting responsibly can have serious consequences. The Student Conduct Code (WAC 106-125) outlines behavioral expectations governing conduct for all CWU students. These behavioral expectations include abiding by local, state, and federal laws, university policies, and public health requirements.

Students engaging in prohibited behavior may be subject to disciplinary action through the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities as outlined in the Student Conduct Code (WAC 106-125). If found responsible, student outcomes may include removal from courses, trespass from university owned property, disciplinary probation, or suspension.

If you have any questions regarding student behavior or expectations please contact the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities at 509-963-1817 or via email at student.conduct@cwu.edu.

I speak for the entire campus when I say, we want you to succeed, achieve, and thrive. Be safe and have a great fall 2020 quarter.

Sincerely,

Gregg Heinselman

Dean of Student Success
